(4/17/18) Sacramento, CA … The high-powered 950-horsepower open wheel sprint cars of the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Racing Series are headed for an important championship doubleheader points race weekend.  On Friday, April 20^th, the club will do battle on the one-quarter mile Ocean Speedway in Watsonville.  The following night, Saturday, April 21^st, the King of the West-NARC series will invade the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare for the Spring Nationals.

Leading California’s best sprint car drivers to both tracks will be Elk Grove’s Shane Golobic, who won the season opener at Kern County Raceway Park on April 8^th.  He is driving for the Fresno-based Tarlton Motorsports team in his quest for his first King of the West-NARC crown.

As a result of his impressive victory, Golobic leads the KWS-NARC championship point standings for the first time in his career.  He currently holds a narrow 95-91 point margin over three-time series titlist Kyle Hirst of Paradise, CA.

“These double-race weekends can be your best friend or worst enemy depending on your luck,” said Hirst, a winner of 24-career series victories.  “And with so many top quality teams chasing the King of the West-NARC title, it’s important to start the season strong and stay in the hunt.  It would be huge to walk away with a pair of wins at this point in the season.”

In addition to victory lane glory, teams are looking to pocket the lion’s share of more than $37,000 up for grabs in prize money.

Other top contenders include defending champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell; Penngrove’s Chase Johnson; the Scelzi brothers of Fresno – Dominic and Gio; Nevada driver Tanner Thorson; Hanford’s Mitchell Faccinto and DJ Netto; Grass Valley’s Jason Statler; Bobby McMahan of Elk Grove; Roseville’s Colby Copeland, Jarrett Soares of Discovery Bay and many more.

The King of the West-NARC racing format includes qualifying, heat-races, a trophy dash, and the 30-lap Fujitsu/Hoosier sponsored headliner.

Ocean Speedway is located at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds on 2601 E.
